About the Department
The Department of English has its beginning with Under Graduate Programme right from the time of its inception in 2011. M.A. English was established in the year 2017. It caters to the needs of learning English Language and Literature both at Under Graduate and Post Graduate levels. The department has well- equipped and dedicated faculty members who serve the students by training them to face the competitive world by means of their studies and communication skills which will enhance their job opportunities. As a Department, we endow life skills through appreciation of literature in English through various cultures. The Department strives hard to foster the overall development of the students by actively engaging them in co- curricular and extra- curricular activities in addition to the curricular activities.
To prepare the students for their higher education and career development.
To motivate our students to participate in various literary and cultural competitions and programmes which make them enjoy their studies and also improve their communication skills.
Providing students with a solid knowledge to appreciate and understand the major English genres- prose, poetry, fiction and drama.
Training students to write critically, analytically and creatively in ways required both inside and outside of the academy.
Developing the students’ professional skills and preparing them for employment.
Courses
A candidate with a pass in B.A. English Major / a pass in Part II English paper of B.A., B.Sc., Degree (4 Semesters) or any other equivalent degree accepted by Madurai Kamaraj University except B.Com. / B.B.A. / B.A. Economics students.
