The Department of History since its birth in 1971-72 has been rendering commendable service mostly to the economically backward first generation students. The Department offers B.A. (Aided) and M.A. (Self-Finance) Programmes. It has sincere, dedicated and highly motivated faculty members. They readily assist and guide the students. The classrooms are ICT- enabled to make learning very effective. The Department has produced a number of University laurels. A large number of students have been recruited in central and state level services. The faculty members and students of the Department have excavated rare utensils and urn in an around Aruppukottai. The Department organizes National Seminar, Awareness Programmes related to Health, Horticulture, Human rights, Women Issues, Environmental Studies and Drug Abuses. Exhibitions are also conducted regularly. As a part of experiential learning the Department arranges field visits to places of historical significance every year.
